The Atyrau Oil Refinery is commencing scheduled maintenance work on the slow coking unit

Scheduled maintenance work at the delayed coking unit (DCU) at Atyrau Oil Refinery LLP (AOR) is set to begin on 11 March 2026.

Technical operations, expected to take approximately 10 days, are required to carry out a steam blowdown of the furnace product coil. This procedure forms part of the scheduled cleaning of the internal surfaces of pipelines to remove coke deposits, in accordance with the requirements of national standard S.RK 3517-2020, and is included annually in the maintenance schedule for oil refineries, as approved by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The scheduled maintenance work at the DCU will not affect the ANPZ’s production targets for light petroleum products in March. During this period, the plant will continue to produce 3.5 thousand tons of petrol per day, 4.5 thousand tons of diesel fuel per day and 0.6 thousand tons of aviation fuel per day.

By the time the scheduled maintenance work on the DCU begins, the oil products market in Kazakhstan is in a stable balance. As of today, significant stocks are available in the regions: petrol and diesel fuel amounting to 40 days’ consumption, and jet fuel amounting to 70 days’ consumption.

For reference: during the operation of the DCU, the furnace coil becomes coked due to exposure to high temperatures, as partial thermal cracking reactions take place. Steam-air cleaning of the product coil is an integral part of the unit’s operation and a scheduled maintenance activity to maintain the reliability of the process equipment and prevent the occurrence of abnormal situations.
